A lifelong resident of Durham, Derek's interest in photography started around 10 years ago, but really moved on when he was bought a digital camera that really let him explore his interest, and allowed his talent and passion for photography to flourish.

Derek initially concentrated on photographing the landscapes, nature, and the coastal areas of the North of England, as this allowed him to combine photography and outdoor pursuits. After a while his interests broadened and he felt that photography could allow him to work at something that he truly enjoys.

Realising that to really fine tune and develop his skills he would need formal education and training Derek embarked on the Foundation degree applied photography course through City of Sunderland College in September 2007 which he completed successfully in June 2010.

As part of his ever increasing portfolio Derek has had his photographs used by several flourishing North East Businesses, as well as a large public sector organisation, and is continuing to work alongside some of these businesses as their main product and marketing photographer.
